Finding helium in your city
Search for a welding-gas or industrial-gas supplier. Every metropolitan area has several, and they are used to accounts that return monthly.
Roughly $300 for a 200 cubic foot tank. Ask about cylinder rental terms at the same time, because that is the cost most people forget to ask about.
Top-off rhythm
About one percent a day, so nothing fails suddenly. The balloon softens and rides lower on the tether.
When it stops looking taut from the road it has stopped doing its job. That lands every three to seven days in practice.
The wind rule
Over 25 miles per hour in the forecast means bring it inside. Not when it arrives, when it is forecast.
Wind is what takes balloons. Normal use does not wear them out in any way you will notice. Weather loss is the one thing no manufacturer covers, and it is entirely avoidable.
Airspace
Under 150 feet above ground the FAA is not involved. We fly at 120 feet, deliberately below that line.
The exception is controlled airspace. Within five miles, call the local tower and ask. In forty years we have never been refused. Johnny Mulder, who runs the company, holds an FAA commercial pilot certificate.
Indoors
Fifteen feet of clear ceiling minimum. Below that the blimp cannot sit above a crowd.
Ask the venue about helium rules before shipping anything. Some halls restrict it regardless of ceiling height, and move-in day is an expensive time to find out.
